Street Banners
The launch of our street banner program
in 2001 celebrated the vibrant diversity of the Drive
with 5 original designs. Since then, we have continued using images
that conjure the eclectic mix that draws patrons from
the neighbourhood as well as the rest of the city.
256 banners were printed for each of the first 3 editions. With the 2007 expansion of our BIA south to 13th Avenue the number of banners for each edition has increased to nearly 400. Each edition is up for 2 cycles and is then retired.
Rather than sending these old banners to the landfill, we have them remanufactured into reusable nylon shopping bags by Dream Designs — a housewares and clothing manufacturer that originated right here on Commercial Drive.
