Kids and the CommunityHelp build a community playground and make memories that will last forever! June 6th, 2009 @ Commercial Drive & 11th AveWe are happy to share the opportunity to get involved in an exciting neighbourhood project at Commercial Drive and 11th Avenue — taking a vacant garbage-filled lot and turning it into a children’s playground. My Own Back Yard Community Association (MOBY) is a vital part of the Cedar Cottage neighbourhood. In 2006 they redeveloped 2 vacant lots at 1727 & 1737 11th Ave East into a community garden. On June 6th, 2009 MOBY will be rallying together 200 volunteers from the community to construct a playground at this site! MOBY received a nationwide award from Let Them Be Kids (LTBK), assisting community-based organizations with financial support and tools and guidance to complete a community playground project. MOBY was one of only 4 recipients nationwide from a field of 200 applications, to be chosen for this prize. So far, MOBY has raised over $50,000 towards this project with financial support from Whole Foods Market, Let Them Be Kids, and residents of east Vancouver, but they must raise an additional $15,000 in order to make this project a reality. Your support will make a positive difference and provide a much needed play space for kids in the community. Below, is an outline of ways to help – from sponsorship to volunteer opportunities – there are many ways to get involved and recognition opportunities for you and your business. We also need volunteers on the playground building day on June 6th and you can sign up as a volunteer at www.myownbackyard.ca. To participate in this community project, please contact Shelly Milstein, Director of MOBY at 604-787-4929.
